To Be Independent
What does it mean to be ‘independent’? The main difference is that the practice is not owned by a larger corporate group and in the case of ‘The Market Town Vet’ it has 1 owner Rob Tulloch who founded the business 3 years ago on one site with 4 additional team members. Since then – it has now grown to 2 sites and 26 permanent team members. There are many more reasons why being an independent practice is important, not only to our expanding client base, but also all our fantastic team and those yet to join us.
For us being independent means having the clinical and financial freedom to treat our clients and their pets as we would wish to be treated ourselves. Being involved in decision making, treated in a polite and friendly manner, having our views taken into account and working towards a shared goal with respect to me & my pets ongoing care.

For me it's the Just culture - learning from mistakes and openly sharing them without judgement in order to learn. It's team work, it's Ben noticing I've had a rubbish week and saying come on let's grab a drink and you can de compress. It's openly discussing cases as a sounding board to learn or check you've not forgetting stuff. Without me worrying "oh will people think I should know that". It's commitment to continually learning to bring best care. It's doing the best by the client and animal - I don't like gold standard as not always right. I like best care centred around the patient and the client - that takes into account finances, owners time, dog/cat attitude/ stress levels to stuff.

The team - everyone pulls their weight; we have fun every day and are always laughing. Purpose designed building works really well with everything radiating off of the prep room. The ortho drill and saw - I love a power tool. Next to pub and chip shop! Lots of cups of tea, Logo'd underpants!

Working at ‘The Market Town Vets’ is like working in a big family, the support from the team is amazing and it’s a joy going to work each day. Not only do the employees notice but clients too, a lot of comments are made to reception, saying it’s like walking into a big family practice. Not only do we have support from our branch, both branches help each other if and when possible. Not only does it help having a fabulous team, the clients are wonderful too.

For me, it's about being part of and invested in something I have helped start up, nurtured and grown. It is great to see our efforts have blossomed and continue to do so. As a Manager I feel I am given the autonomy to make my own decisions whilst knowing the support is on hand should I need it. I am happy In my role partly working from home. This flexibility means my work fits around a busy family life giving me a greater work / life balance whilst still being on hand if needed to support the team.

Having set up the practice 3 years ago I love what we have to offer – an affordable and friendly service for all our clients.
