- Use of Highest Priority Critically Important Antibiotics (HP CIAs), as defined by the European Medicines Agency, must be restricted for use used as a last resort under veterinary direction, backed up by either sensitivity or diagnostic testing.
- Highest Priority Critically Important Antibiotics (HP CIAs) such as 3rd & 4th generation Cephalosporins & Fluoroquinalones should not make up 1st line treatment protocols.
- Highest Priority Critically Important Antibiotics (HP CIAs) should not be used in any way for preventative care protocols.
- TMTV will strive to reduce its use and reliance on these products.
- At present there are several products in the dispensary which fall into the Highest Priority Critically Important Antibiotics (HP CIAs) category. These include: Marbocare, Baytril, Aurizon & Marbocyl. These drugs are only to be used as a last resort, where there are resistance issues that have been identified as a result of Culture and Sensitivity testing.
